A WMS is a standard protocol developed and maintained by the Open GeoSpatial Consortium (OGC). This protocol allows a client application to request an image, over the Internet to a web service, such as the First Base Solutions WMS. The WMS will then dynamically create a view of the requested data and streams it back to the client application, positioning it in its correct geospatial location.
